When you look at the profile of your room, you can see the "stat type" of the room. Your crew has stats and will affect your room based on what stat type the room have. For example, let's say you have a crew with pilot 0, science 10, engineer 0 and weapon 0. If your crew is in your hanger(stat type:pilot), your room will not be affected by science, engineer and weapon stat but pilot stat. Since the stat is 0, your room will not be affected. If he/she is in shield room(stat type:science) and since you have 10 science stat, he/she can increase reload speed by 10%(not very sure though, I didn't search that up). There is one exception: If your crew is in the engine room it will increase dodge chance, not reload speed.
