The Plasma Cannon is the fourth weapon you may unlock in Pixel Starships. It does exactly one bar of damage to rooms and hull health and cannot bypass the shield. The Plasma Cannon also needs to be refilled with gas to use. A special version of this weapon also exists called the Phaser. It cannot be upgraded and bypasses shields, this was part of the Supporter's pack found at the Pixel starships website.
The Plasma Cannon is pretty much like a 3 power Mining Laser. With the combination of two Mining Lasers, it can effectively chew through 3 powered rooms provided that your Cannon fires 6 seconds before the Mining Laser. Just like the Mining Laser, it does alot of crew damage and two shots can do guaranteed damage to one power rooms.
Like the Mining Laser, make sure this weapon has alot of armor and crew. It only has three power and is the target of many enemy AI systems. When setting up the AI for the Plasma Cannon, make sure it fires at the same room your other weapons fire at for focus fire damage. Never make it target Reactors and make sure it is refilled before leaving or else it'll do nothing.
When To Use
Low Reliance on Weapons
If you don't rely on weapons on your main win condition (Like Teleport Rushing) then the Plasma Cannon can be a meh choice. If you can disable the enemy ship without the use of many weapons or if you don't need to out damage the enemy in time, use Mining Lasers instead. They are cheaper, don't need gas, and do faster DPS.
High Reliance on Weapons
If you rely on weapons to disable the enemy ship (Like Hangars) than the Plasma Cannon can be a massive help. It isn't necessary but it can make damaging and killing important assets much easier. Just remember to refill the Plasma Cannon, and if you run out of ammo just depower it.
